Surprise, surprise!!
There’s so much more to Disney than just the overhyped sparkly new attractions, and I’m here to share with you some of the most overlooked and underrated, yet true treasures of Disney World. Let’s go!!
ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE

OK, OK… I get it. I get that the only way to get to Disney parks from Animal Kingdom Lodge is by bus, but if that’s what is stopping you from visiting this masterpiece of a resort then you need to think twice!
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is a celebration of African culture and wildlife gorgeously designed in the eyes of Disney. It’s in the deluxe resort collection, so perks like extended evening hours on select days at select parks are included. The Lodge offers rooms with breathtaking views of the savanna, where you can enjoy your morning cup of coffee literally with giraffes and gazelles enjoying the sunrise with you.

There are so many activities for young and old that it’s almost like a theme park in itself. Take the nature walk to get up close views of the animals in the savannah or just spend time in the breathtaking lobby while learning about African culture. Kids can play instruments and even take a guided tour with in-depth descriptions of native African art. Nighttime s’mores and poolside activities are abundant, and did I mention the pools? Animal Kingdom Lodge is arguably home to two of the best pools on Disney property. Both the Uzima Springs Pool and the Samawati Springs Pool are themed after a tropical oasis and are surrounded by lush tropical plants for that “Yes, I truly am on vacation” feeling!

THE PAVILLION IN MEXICO
Who would have thought that the pavilion in Mexico is more than margaritas and tacos? It’s my favorite summertime haven or anytime you just need a sanctuary for escape!
When you walk inside you are transported to a magical night time street market deep in the heart of Mexico. You can relax and enjoy authentic Mexican fare inside at the San Angel Inn Restaurante, which sits riverside to another hidden attraction!

The Gran Fiesta tour, starring the Three Caballeros ride, is a leisurely (emphasis on leisurely) boat ride with a notorious super low wait time, think five minutes. I know it’s maybe not one of the most popular rides in Epcot, but all I can say from experience is that I have one happy and rejuvenated family by the time we leave the air-conditioned tranquility of Mexico.
SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON TREEHOUSE

One of my most favorite classic novels of all time and one of the best throwback movies from the1960s tells the story of my third most underrated attraction at Disney World. The Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse is everything a young child of the 70s and 80s could even dream up!

Think stairs, tree forts, and an epic playhouse but on a whole new level. Dream of being in a treehouse this legendary in size, and as an adult, just fascinated by all the engineering that contributed to this credible working household in the sky. Bonus points: there’s a spot up top where you can see Cinderella’s castle, Tron, and Space Mountain altogether! Hands down it’s the perfect spot for that unforgettable “night-time-picture-with-a-view” anywhere in the Magic Kingdom.
MOANA’S JOURNEY OF WATER

Epcot, make waaay..make waaay! Well, they DID do something new! When Walt Disney World announced they would open a new exhibit at Epcot in 2023, most thought it would be a thrill ride or another roller coaster, but Moana’s Journey of Water experience in my opinion is the perfect addition to what Epcot was missing.

Disney Imagineers had the vision of tying in the importance of water conservation and living water in a fun and interactive attraction. Perfectly situated in the World Nature area of Epcot, Journey of Water is a tranquil and lush walk-through attraction. The attraction itself is meant to educate visitors about the water cycle and how it sustains our world, but honestly, it’s just FUN!! I can’t be the only one who loves to play in the water and splash around! There is even a dedicated splash pad for children (and adults) who just need a play break. Breathtaking photo ops and a Moana character meet right next door…count me in!
JOURNEY INTO IMAGINATION

Last but not one moment least is what I deem the most underrated ride in all the land. Journey into Imagination was designed to embody the playful imaginative spirit of Epcot, and they made their mark with this 100% fantasyland attraction.
First this mischievous and cheeky little purple dragon, Figment, was born, and now we get to ride along on his adventure into our own imaginations. I mean how can you not love a ride with an adorable bouncing purple dragon taking you on a journey with rainbows, glitter, stinky smell machines, and a singing moon face!??
Does it need an update, most definitely, but you just can’t help but laugh at all the quirky ridiculousness of the ride. To top it off, at the end of the ride, you enter immediately into ImageWorks Lab where there’s all kinds of cool things to do. Wild and creative, you can make music by stomping on colored lights or playing a guitar by swinging your hands. Bonus, there are character meet and greets with Joy from Inside Out, as well as Figment himself! And did I mention for those who don’t like to wait in long lines, even during peak times the wait for the ride at the most is 15 minutes! WINNER!!
